Loyola won an unprecedented eighth CIF Southern Section Commissioners Cup for its athletic accomplishments in the 2015-2016 school year. The award is bestowed on the school in the 580-member Southern Section that accrues the most points based on CIF titles won, runners-up accomplished, semifinal playoff appearances and fourth place finishes in team-point sports.
Perhaps eclipsing the honor of winning another Commissioners Cup, on July 28, CalHi Sports selected Loyola as one of the three State Boys Sports Teams of the Year. The other two were Buchanan of Clovis and De La Salle of Concord.
The Cubs won CIF championships in soccer, golf, swimming & diving, volleyball and lacrosse. The soccer team won the CIF State Southern California regional title and finished the season ranked first in the state. The Cross Country squad won the CIF State Division II title. The volleyball team finished its campaign ranked second in the state, and the swimming squad was the best in California, and the top club in school history.
Suffice to say, Loyola continues to compete at the highest level not only in academics but also in athletics.
