Cub safety Jordan Riordan reports to camp at San Diego State

Loyola All-Mission League safety JORDAN RIORDAN ’16 is beginning his collegiate football career at San Diego State University today. Riordan packed a powerful punch on the back end of the Cubs defense in 2015. He made 64 tackles and had 353 yards receiving as a wide receiver for Loyola, which finished the season ranked 17th in the state.

 Loyola lacrosse goalie commits to Tufts

It was reported that Loyola junior lacrosse goalie JOE THEUER has committed to Tufts University. Theuer was a key player on the Cub squad this spring that won the Southern Section title by defeating Orange County champion Corona del Mar, marking the first time a Los Angeles area champion had won the Southern Section lacrosse championship since interscholastic lacrosse was first instituted as an interscholastic sport in Southern California.

 Cub shortstop commits to Air Force Academy

Loyola junior shortstop CHRISTIAN GAMBALE has committed to the United States Air Force Academy, where he will play baseball for the Falcons following his graduation next spring. Gambale joins junior pitcher BLAKE BEERS (University of Michigan) as Cub juniors who have made collegiate baseball commitments. A large number of returning starters will lead Loyola’s baseball squad in 2017. The Cubs finished the 2016 campaign in second place in the tough Mission League.

 Anthony Barr Foundation sponsoring free football camp at Loyola on July 9

Former Cub football star ANTHONY BARR ’10, who was the Serra League’s Most Valuable Offensive Player during his playing days as a running back at Loyola and later a consensus All-American linebacker and defensive MVP at UCLA and the winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy (an award bestowed on the nation’s best collegiate defensive player in performance and character) in his senior campaign as a Bruin, is returning to his prep alma mater for the second consecutive year this Saturday, July 9, to put on a free youth football camp. The NFL star - Barr is a starting linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings - is ranked among the NFL’s Top 25 of 25 year old, or younger, players. He was also selected to play in last season’s Pro Bowl.
