See the link below regarding one of the summer’s top passing tournaments being held at Huntington Beach Edison on July 9. It is the last opportunity this summer to watch the Cubs compete in elite 7-on-7 competition. Loyola’s morning pool opponents includes Mater Dei, La Habra, Charter Oak and Corona del Mar. http://www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/varsity-times/la-sp-vi-football-pools-finalized-for-edison-s-seven-on-seven-passing-tournament-20160629-story.html
Loyola’s 2016 Varsity football schedule
Loyola’s varsity football schedule is set, and summer practices are now in full swing after a CIF-mandated dead period. The five home games on the 2016 schedule are currently slated to be played at Smith Field on Loyola’s campus. Based on very positive feedback after hosting all 2015 home games on Smith Field as part of the school’s 150th Anniversary celebration, impetus is building for plans to build a permanent on-campus stadium.
The CIF Southern Section included Loyola among the 18 elite prep football programs placed in Division I for the coming season, based on new competitive equity guidelines implemented for the first time for playoff competition. The newly configured Division I is for all intents and purposes an open division consisting of the section’s top football programs. Sixteen of the division’s eighteen schools will qualify for the Division I playoffs. The Cubs finished the 2015 campaign with a 9-3 record and were 17th in CalHi Sports’ final state rankings. No less than ten players from that squad will be playing collegiate football this fall.

Anthony Barr Foundation sponsoring football camp at Loyola on July 9
Former Cub football star ANTHONY BARR ’10, who was the Serra League’s Most Valuable Offensive Player during his playing days as a running back at Loyola and later a consensus All-American linebacker and defensive MVP at UCLA and the winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy (an award bestowed on the nation’s best collegiate defensive player in performance and character) in his senior campaign as a Bruin, is returning to his prep alma mater for the second consecutive year on July 9 to put on a youth football camp (please see the attached). The NFL star - Barr is a starting linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings - is ranked among the NFL’s Top 25 of 25 year old, or younger, players. He was also selected to play in last season’s Pro Bowl. See the link below.
Please spread the word about the Anthony Barr Foundation Football Camp. It is a great opportunity to show off Loyola’s impressive campus to young football players and their families. Barr’s “Man for Others” ethos has carried over from his days as a Cub student-athlete.
