Loyola lands three players on Mission League first team honor squad, four Cubs named to second team

Seniors JACK WEBSTER (WR/DB) and WINSTON ANAWALT (LB) were named to the 2016 All-Mission League first team football team, selected by the league’s coaches. Joining Webster and Anawalt on the first team honor unit was junior defensive back ALEX JOHNSON. 

 Second team All-Mission league accolades were earned by senior quarterback SEAN O’MALLEY, senior offensive lineman CAMERON HANSON, junior nickel/LB JACOB McBRIDE and junior linebacker TOMMY VANIS.

 The Cubs finished the campaign with a 3-7 record, but four of their losses were a combined total of just eight points.

 Former Loyola star earns Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors at Cal

CAMERON WALKER ‘13, a four-year starter for Cal at nickel back was named the Golden Bears’ Hoff Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  Loyola finishes second in state cross-country championships on November 26

Loyola’s Mission League champion cross country squad finished second in the CIF State Division II championship race in Fresno on November 26. The Cubs were fourth in the CIF Southern Section Division II championship race run in Riverside on November 19.

 Cub water polo makes it to CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals

Loyola’s Mission League champion water polo team fell to CIF Southern Section Division I champion Orange Lutheran, 9-5, in the playoff semifinals. The Cubs, who defeated Los Osos and Newport Harbor in the first two rounds of the playoffs, completed another stellar campaign with a 23-7 overall record. Loyola went undefeated in Mission League competition after dispatching archrival Harvard-Westlake in its final conference match.
